cold case solvedOn February 19, 2014 members of the Yarmouth Police Department Detective Division executed a search warrant at a residence on Conservation Drive in Yarmouthport.  Detectives arrested a 52 yr old male identified as John Burns,  on an outstanding warrant and for his role in a burglary at the Adrene’s Jewelry Store which occurred on February 5, 2013.  The 2013 incident was investigated by Patrol Officer Erika Wenberg, the Criminal Investigation Office of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department and members of the Yarmouth Police Detective Division.  After a lengthy investigation the case went cold until this month.  In early February, Investigators received information about the possible location of the stolen jewelry and developed Burns as a prime suspect.    A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of several items of jewelry. A quantity of Class C and Class E prescription drugs was also located and seized. During booking a Rolex watch located in Burns possession. This watch was positively identified as having been stolen from Adrene Jewelers.  Additional investigation led to the recovery of another Rolex Watch, which was retrieved at a location in Western, MA.  Several other pieces of jewelry stolen from Adrene’s was recovered at a second residence in Yarmouth.

John Burns was charged with the following crimes.

  • Breaking and      Entry into a Building in the Nighttime with the Intent to Commit a Felony
  • Larceny Over      $250.00
  • Receiving Stolen      Property Over $250.00
  • Possession of      Class C Drugs
  • Possession of      Class E Drugs
