Special Weapons and Tactics
The Yarmouth Police Department has eight highly dedicated officers assigned to the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council (CCRLEC) SWAT Team. Yarmouth and Barnstable are the two founding members of the CCRLEC SWAT Team.
The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team consists of a group of specially selected officers from each department. These officers have been highly trained in the use of special weapons and tactics for the purpose of handling high risk situations involving barricaded suspects, hostage takers, high risk warrant service, or other situations requiring training and expertise beyond the capabilities of the regular police officer. The SWAT Team trains each month to constantly sharpen their skills and abilities. Components of the SWAT Team include less lethal device instructors, entry teams, a hostage negotiation Team, Sniper team and Dignitary/ V.I.P. Protection Team.
The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team’s mission is to bring a successful conclusion to high risk situations through the use of specially equipped and highly trained personnel without injury or loss of life to citizens, suspects, or police officers.
The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team is made up of members from the following Cape departments:
Barnstable, Brewster, Dennis, Mashpee, Orleans, Sandwich and Yarmouth
